With over 20 years of experience, Jan ‘Stan’ Kybert has worked with the greats to mix, engineer and produce music that combines experience, experimentalism and intuition. As engineer to Mark ‘Spike’ Stent, Kybert worked with the likes of Björk, Massive Attack and Oasis, including on their 2000 album Standing On The Shoulders of Giants.
At Wheeler End Studio whilst working as Oasis’ inhouse engineer, Kybert was introduced to Paul Weller and has gone on to engineer and co-produce every one of Weller’s albums, including the most recent Official UK number 1 album Fat Pop. From New Order and The Prodigy to Unkle and The Draytones, Kybert has employed his deep understanding and respect for sound to deliver inspired production and mixes that transcend genre.
As creative director and head Atmos Music mixer, Kybert now leads the UK’s immersive sound technology revolution representing Dean St Studios and Auraferix in changing the way people experience music forever. It is through his care and attention that Auraferix has become the immersive sound creators of choice for some of the world’s top creators including The Foo Fighters, Bastille and Fraser T Smith.
Created through collaboration with Dean St Studios, Veale Associates, Dolby and PMC speakers, our reference-level, statement Atmos music is the first of its kind in the UK. Made up of PMC’s flagship IB2S XBD-A active monitors covering left, centre and right main channels, discrete wafers for the surround and heights, and four sub2 subwoofers fulfilling the LFE. Due to its almost limitless headroom, power capabilities, pin-point accuracy and sonic fidelity our Auraferix suite is now recognised by Dolby, Universal Music Group and others as the template for Dolby Atmos Music mixing.
By designing a monitoring system that goes above and beyond the standard Dolby requirements, and coupled with PMC’s renowned Advance Transmission Line (ATL) technology, we have created a system for Dolby Atmos Music creation that delivers audio at a higher calibre to others before it and are able to respectfully, and easily, reproduce all genres of music consistently at all levels.
All of our mixes meet the highest quality control standards and comply with industry guidelines.
Where needed we ensure tracks are appropriately pre-mixed. Pre-mixing is to prepare the supplied audio files for Atmos and is an important stage of the process. All mixes include 1 hour of pre-mixing.
All mixes will contain an Atmos, 7.1, 5.1 & binaural headphone version which meet loudness requirements of -18LUFS as recommended by Dolby and UMG.
Once the mix is completed, we will provide you with an Atmos master ADM file for delivery to Amazon Music, Apple Music and Tidal for encoding.
After leaving Metropolis he went on to work as a freelance assistant on projects around the globe, orchestral editing for several feature films internationally, in addition to editing a series of vocal projects across Europe.
Eventually finding his way to Dean St Studios as a freelance assistant in late 2020, we have quickly adopted him as one of our own – and Joe has proven himself an invaluable asset to any session he is involved in.
This varied experience has led Joe to work with a wide selection of clients, from artists like Skepta and Jorja Smith, to Boy George. He has also worked on multiple Burna Boy tracks, most notably the GRAMMY-nominated album, ‘African Giant’.
Since returning to Dean Street in August 2020, he has picked up right where he left off, working on sessions for Headie One, Burna Boy, London Grammar and Marc Almond. Mixing his knowledge of the studio’s inner workings with a half-decade long study into Soho’s food culture, Charlie is invariably ready on session to either facilitate a mic change and fresh signal chain, or to proffer an enticing lunch choice from the area’s bounty of restaurants and shops.
Often to be found discussing his love for DIY audio equipment (see the Pultec and 1176 currently in Studio 1), Charlie is at his best furiously debating Motown drum sounds, pursuing a bordering-on-the-obsessive love for recording to tape, and weaponising English Literature recitals for unorthodox mic checks.
It was at the legendary RAK Studios that Rob got his start in the music industry before becoming the sole engineer for double-platinum selling, award winning artists, Chase & Status and their label imprint MTA Records. During his time with the duo he engineered for a host of clients including Nile Rodgers, Rihanna, Craig David, Emili Sandé, Stormzy, Pusha T, Blossoms and Slaves. Rob then began working with Plan B where he engineered and co-produced tracks for his fourth album ‘Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose’ which achieved widespread critical acclaim and was a Top 5 hit in the UK charts. Rob has since worked with a wide variety of top London recording studios, engineering tracks for artists including Jay-Z, Little Mix, Kylie Minogue, James Bay, Sir Tom Jones Young Thug, DJ Snake, Future, MF Doom, Ray BLK, Machine Gun Kelly, Jools Holland, Tom Grennan, Jacob Banks, Sub Focus and Laura White.
Having started at Dean St in 2012 Jonny has quickly progressed to become head engineer. Since then he has been involved in engineering a variety of projects. Ranging from chart topping albums to feature film soundtracks.
Rarely seen without her phone in her hand, Ella is in charge of all our social media channels. With a background in Digital Marketing, she knows her stuff and will be sharing all the best that Dean St. Studios has to offer.
In the few moments when she has doesn’t have her eyes glued to her phone or laptop, she’ll be found spending too much money in a comic book shop (“But it’s a variant cover, I must have it”), or pondering why her Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry letter never made it to her (“Clearly the owl was having a bad day”).
