The 57th Ivor Novello Awards are tonight, and it looks like Adele is going to trounce everyone in sight. (Full list of winners below)

Named after the Cardiff born entertainer Ivor Novello, ‘The Ivors’ were once described by Sir Paul McCartney as ‘the greatest award a musician could receive’.

First introduced in 1955, and presented annually in London by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), The Ivor Novello Awards honour “excellence in songwriting and composing” and are the only musical awards that are judged by songwriters and composers. In fact ‘The Ivors’ remain the only award ceremony in the musical calendar that is not influenced by publishers and record companies – instead being judged and presented solely by the writing community.

It’s finally here… The Great Escape‘s (TGE) annual festivities are upon us!

It covers all types of music, it’s always in May, it’s always 3 days, there’s over 300 new artists playing in over 30 venues and it’s by the seaside. The best bit is that my ticket cost £9.90 return from London Victoria. BOOM!

So what more could you want? What’s that… you want to hear all the bands before you go so you can decide who you want to see? Click here then… the Guardian’s already sorted that one out for you. They’ve also given you a little shortlist, so you can hit up the ‘ones to watch’… they’re good aren’t they.

You can see a map of venues here, which should make for interesting navigation when you’re smashed from about 3pm. TGE, now in it’s 7th year, has also become a mecca for industry types – growing beyond even the likes of Liverpool’s Soundcity and Manchester’s In The City.

Us, personally, we’re keen to see this lot:

Alt J
Alabama Shakes
Avalanche City
Bastille
Beth Jeans Houghton
Clock Opera
College
Com Truise
Cymbals
Django Django
Dry the River
Errors
Foxes
Francois & The Atlas Mountains
Friends
French Films
Gaz Coombes
Grimes
Gross Magic
HAIM
Halls
Hannah Cohen
Hot Panda
Howler
Hyde & Beast
I Ching
Keep Shelley in Athens
King Charles
Lapalux
La Femme
Lianne La Havas
Madeon
My Best Fiend
Mystery Jets
Niki & The Dove
O Children
Pond
Ray Morris
Regal Safari
The Sheepdogs
Shabazz Palaces
Splashh
Sun Glitters
Tanlines
Theme Park
Treetop Flyers
Tribes
We Are Augustines
We Are Scientists
Willy Mason
Young Magic

Of course, there’ll be some overlap, but well… plans very rarely work out the way they’re supposed to. And anyway, it’s all about being in the flow.

So enjoy! Let us know how you get on.

Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2 and Virgin Media were ordered to start blocking access to The Pirate Bay in the next few weeks.

BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor said: “The High Court has confirmed that The Pirate Bay infringes copyright on a massive scale. Its operators line their pockets by commercially exploiting music and other creative works without paying a penny to the people who created them. This is wrong – musicians, sound engineers and video editors deserve to be paid for their work just like everyone else.

“Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists. We urge anyone using The Pirate Bay to explore the many digital music services operating ethically and legally in the UK – especially those carrying the Music Matters trustmark.”

The High Court Orders were made by Mr Justice Arnold following his ruling in February that both the operators and users of The Pirate Bay website infringe the copyright of music companies.
